Arman ( Armand Pierre Fernandez ) TV Squeeze Tube Silvered Metal Sculpture Cast by Bocquel

Unavailable
This sculpture by Arman (1928-2005) depicts two squeeze tubes extruding the letters TV as in television, and is believed to date from the 1960s or 1970s. Signed and cast by Bocquel. The subject appears to most closely relate to the artist's motivations and techniques from the early to late 1960s. During this period, Arman created numerous "coleres", common man-made objects which were destroyed and reassembled and mounted. Also during this period his "coupes" or "slicings" depicted such objects after they were sliced apart. These creations were intended to stimulate viewers to re-evaluate their notions of beauty and art. Thus in this piece it appears the artist has linked a very common household item (tubes of skin creme or toothpaste) with television, possibly to challenge us to contemplate the role of consumerism and advertising in our lives.
