APOLLO STUDIOS, PEN HOLDER, BEADED BORDER, GREEN GLASS~

For Sale I have one of the Rarest Desk Set Items to be found and it was made by Apollo Studios of New York, New York. The Desk Set Item is a "Pen or Pencil Rack" and it is done in the more decorative Beaded Border Edge and Green Opalescent Glass.

The Pen Tray displays a Fabulous Verdi Green Brown Patina. When I first saw this I thought I had found a very Rare Pattern made by Tiffany Studios, New York. The Patina, Green Favrile Glass and Beaded Border lead me to believe this until I did further research. The Overlay Pattern is about as good as it gets in these Desk Set Pieces. The filigree Displays Butterflies Flying amongst Clematis Flowers against a Trellis or Lattice. The detail is just unbelievable!! The Opalescent Green Favrile Glass gives this that Forest background appearance. The Four Edges are done in a Tiny Beaded Border outline very similar to Tiffany's Fanciest Desk Set Items.

The Pen rack is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks chips or dings to the Green Glass. The Patina is 10 out of a 10 as there are no signs of Patina Loss. The Frames has no dents or dings. The Beaded Border is perfect as it shows no weakness in the beaded edge. The piece is unsigned but I have documented this to have been made by The Apollo Studio of New York, New York. My research lead me to an Article in which I read that a few of the Tiffany Studio's New York workers left Tiffany's Employment and went to work for Apollo Studios. Thus we have the similarities in the Craftsmanship. The fact that it is unsigned is meaningless as it is what it is and this does not affect the value. This piece was made Circa 1910-1920.

Those of you who collect Desk Set Pieces, especially Apollo and Tiffany, will surely welcome this into their collection. This is an extremely Rare Apollo Studio Item to find and if you are looking for a Museum Quality Example, then this one is for you! This Desk Set Item is much Rarer than the Tiffany ones. You always see the Beaded Tiffany Desk Items on-line. You never see the ones made by Apollo. The production was much smaller and fewer examples exist. This is a must for the advanced desk set collector.

Apollo Studios of New York was a division of Bernard Rice & Sons, and was in existence between 1909 and 1922. This company was a contemporary of Tiffany Studios. Their items were offered for sale in the prestigious Ovington's on Fifth Avenue in New York. Ovington's sold china, crystal, fine art, silver and hand painted portraits on ivory, among other things. Ovington was a direct Retail Competitor to Tiffany and Company and Tiffany Studios.
