Antique 18th century Turkish Ottoman Pouch for Gun flints made of sterling silver in shield form box with a hinged lid. Front and sides richly decorated with raised knobbed and diamond pattern bands of fine filigree bead work of open wire work and adorned at the centre with a large round button ornamented in nielloed pattern and applied on the sides by three crescent moons with a star. The back is fitted with a belt loop for suspension.
MEASUREMENTS: Height of the box: 8.3 cm (3 1/4 in). Weight: 5.8 ounces (159 grams).
CONDITION: In very good condition.
REFERENCES: A very similar silver pouch is in the collection of the War museum in Belgrade published in the Catalogue "Zanatsko Oruje Balkana 17-19. vek" by Andjelija Radović, Page 45. Also in this catalogue is published an Ottoman Yatagan with a silver scabbard with exactly the same silver work and design including a crescent moon with a star with the date on the blade 1219 (Hijra) what gives 1804 Gregorian. Page 18-48.
