Antique Thonet Bentwood Rocker Rocking Chair

This antique bentwood chair is attributed to Thonet and dates from circa 1900-1905. (It is identical in design to the one depicted on page 53 of Thonet Bentwood and Other Furniture, published in 1980 by Michel Thonet.) It measures 21.5" wide and 36" deep. The front edge of the seat measures 17.5" high, and 14" high with the seat parallel to the floor as when occupied. The seat measures 18" wide and 18.5" deep. Caning is old, possibly original, and has no tears or other damages. The chair is structurally sound and requires no repairs or restorations. The finish is a deep, dark reddish brown. This chair resides in our client's gallery on the Upper West Side of Manhattan ( New York City ) and may be seen by appointment. rlevin
