J Dixon & Sons ( James Dixon & Sons) founded in 1806 in Sheffield. They were well known manufacturers of Britannia metal but best known as whistle makers for their outstanding quality. Besides whistles they were one of the foremost names in silver plate and sterling tableware including silver tea services and hollowware pieces. They also made silver ware serving pieces and had a wide catalogue of patterns. The firm continued to be a family run business until 1976.
