One can only imagine the history of the person who carried such a detailed little box in his or her pocket or purse. It either would have been used to carry decorative patches which were used cosmetically to disguise the unsightly pox scars, prevalent at the time, or as beauty spots to be applied by fashionable ladies. OR to carry snuff. It is detailed on the sides and the top with cherubs and raised relief flowers. The work appears to be hand wrought and it has quite a lot of detail including a hinge and a tiny ledge to lift it up . This measures 1 1/4" x 3/4" and snaps securely shut. Lined with brass to protect its contents it is in great condition. Wonderful piece of tobacco or vanity history! Since this is Irreplaceable there can be no returns on this sale.
