Offering this nice very rare adjustable screw head holding screwdriver in very good condition. It is marked "PAT. APPL'D FOR" on the steel slide section. Most likely dates back to around 1925. The singular jaw to hold the screw in place are controlled by a 1 piece slide that has a lock screw to hold it in place. The mechanics of the screwdriver are all in good++ condition. The handle is hardwood, with a brass ferrule, very solid, and fits snuggly. The screwdriver is 10" long overall, and the tip is about 3/16" wide. The screw jaw is in great shape, like the rest of the screwdriver. A very rare screwdriver, a type I see very few of these days, particularly in this nice condition. A good sturdy, well made tool! Although this is a less complex version than some other patented screw holding screwdrivers, the fact remains that few examples are available today. Many of these screwdrivers became nearly obsolete when Philips patent his screwdriver head design.
