Antique 19th century oil sketch painting on a masonite board, attributed to John Brown Abercromby (1843-1929).
The painting depicts a red-haired young girl sitting on a stool in front of a fireplace and blowing air by the bellows.
The painting is unsigned, however, to the back of the masonite board is taped a scrap of paper with a hand written note “R.S.A J.B. Abercromby”, this note must have been left by someone who knew the name of the artist of the painting.
MEASUREMENTS: Dimensions with the frame: 43 cm x 35 cm (17 in x 13 3/4 in). Dimensions without the frame: 30 cm x 21.5 cm (11 3/4 in x 8 1/2 in).
CONDITION: The painting is in its original condition free of repairs or restorations.
The old frame is cracking badly, gesso pieces have been lost, and some of the finish layers have begun flaking. The outside edges of the frame have many areas of exposed wood, where the gesso has popped off.
