A very rare pattern antique 18th century Russian sword 'Shashka'. Details: An extremely long slightly curved single edged steel blade cut with a pair of fullers. The hilt is with a characteristic hooked bifurcated pommel with grips made of dark brown horn retained by two brass rivets and applied on the pommel with a crescent moon. A solid brass cross-guard comprised of a pair of down-turned arms with langets. With two of the original brass scabbard mounts, the locket is fitted with loop for suspension in a typical Russian Cossack manner.
MEASUREMENTS: The overall length is 101.5 cm (40 inches). Length of the blade approximately: 86.3 cm (34 inches).
