From Qajar dynasty (18th century) Persian paper-mache, polychrome lacquer pen-box Qalamdan with rounded ends and sliding tray. Details: top and sides are finely decorated with calligraphy on brown ground surrounded by beautifully hand painted foliate scrolls in gold and polychrome with various flowers on gold background. The Qalamdan contains a small silver inkwell decorated on lid with Carnelian precious stone. Condition: the lacquer is in good condition except for some minor chips. Dimensions: length: 8 ½ inches (21,5cm).
