This antique white English stoneware pie vent, pie bird or pie funnel was made in the Edwardian period and dates to 1900-1920. The pie vent was made in Staffordshire, England where I got it in the Potteries district recently. The pie vent measures 2.5 inches high by 2 inches in diameter and is in very good +++ condition. There is some light staining inside as it was obviously used and no chips or cracks and the steam hole is a bit primitive. A fun piece with great patina. And practical! Pie birds were developed in the 1500s to release steam from a baking pie so the filling didn't boil over.
