This antique stoneware pie vent, pie bird or pie funnel was made in the 1930-1940s and is marked by the maker Nutbrown. The Nutbrown company has been making pie vents and other traditional British kitchenware in England for 50 years or more. The pie vent was made in Staffordshire England and I got it in the Potteries district recently. The pie vent is in very good ++ condition with no chips or cracks and minor crazing. A fun piece. And practical! Pie birds were developed in the 1500s to release steam from a baking pie so the filling didn't boil over.
