Extraordinary, antique large studio photograph of a young woman dressed in a chiton, a draped sleeveless tunic worn in Ancient Greece. She represents a Maenad, a Greek mythological female follower of Bacchus (Dionysus), frequently portrayed playing the Aulos in archaic Greek pottery and other works of art. The Aulos was a double reed ancient Greek wind instrument with a sound similar to that of bagpipes. Comes in an elegant, antique gilt wood frame with losses as shown.
