Vintage Phoenix Consolidated Glass Martele' Hummingbird Vase. The Phoenix Glass Company was founded in 1880 and was located in Monaca, Pennsylvania. They began producing art glass in 1932 when they acquired about fifty molds from the Consolidated Glass Company when Consolidated ceased production.
Phoenix Glass then created and designed new molds based on these molds and called the line Sculptured Art Glass, this line was produced from 1933 to 1958. Both the Ruben Line and Sculptured Art line where only marked with paper labels. The earliest versions of Sculptured Art Glass had silver Phoenix paper labels, later versions featured gold paper labels. Phoenix produced Sculptured Art Ware on and off until 1958. The company is still in business, however, they no longer make any pieces by hand and will never again make Sculptured Art Ware. This vase is the Hummingbird pattern, it was designed by Reuben Haley and introduced in 1926, Consolidateds Martele line of art glass was inspired by the glorious works of Rene Lalique featured at the 1925 Paris Exposition.
An early catalog from Consolidated describes the line as combining the skill of the artist, sculptor and glass artisan to bring out the hand wrought motifs obtained from natures own laboratories the sea, the sky and the land have each supplied an inspiration to the artists.
This vase is a beautiful blend of blue and brown colors on a satin finish white background. It is 5 1/2" tall and 3 1/2" long by 2 3/4" and in beautiful condition, no water lines, no chips. It would be a beautiful addition to your collection! Shipping is less for combined purchases then the above quoted individual cost per item combined and will be adjusted after your order is placed.
