Outstanding 18th-19th century Turkish Ottoman Sword Yatagan in the scabbard with characteristic walrus ear shaped hilt. DETAILS: the hilt is made of two large pieces of walrus ivory mounted in gilded copper and set with raised fluted almond - shaped corals and two round red stones on the ricasso. The recurved single edged blade with narrow fuller is decorated with silver inlaid Arabic calligraphy and Star, the wooden scabbard is covered with burgundy velvet with eastern silver fittings decorated with engraved foliage and scrolls, locket of the scabbard is in the form of an animal head. The Yatagan sword was very popular not only in Turkey but also in many Balkan states and some Eastern European countries such as Ukraine and Hungary. The total length with the scabbard: 83cm (32 5/8 inches).
