Rare variation of a French Napoleonic Grenadier Sword (Le saber briquet) based on the 1790 model. This particular model of saber with many variations was used from 1790 through the Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars by the French Grenadiers and the Napoleonic allies: Details: A cast in one piece brass stirrup hilt comprising a slender and grooved grip plane knuckle guard, down curved quillon and faced back-strap. A slightly curved single-edged blade cut with a narrow groove decorated on both sides with an engraved standing crowned lion holding a sword and writing below.
CONDITION: The sword is in good condition considering its age except for pitting to the blade.
MEASUREMENTS: The overall length is 69.5 cm (27 3/8 in).
