Antique Louis XVI Revival Giltwood Daybed

This antique day bed ( chaise lounge, chaise longue ) in the neoclassical French Louis XVI style was purchased for $23,500 at Christie's New York in lot 235 of sale 9386 on March 31, 2000. Each curved crestrail features piaster-decoration above scrolled supports. The fronts feature acanthus-wrapped garlands and the seatrail has ogee leaf tip, above tapering stop-fluted and leaf-sheathed legs with leaf-sheathed toupie feet, each headed by a patera. The padded ends, seat, seat cushion, and bolsters are covered with cream colored cotton upholstery, carved to the reverse. This daybed was reupholstered sometime shortly prior to purchase and it has received virtually no use since 2000. Upholstery shows no visible stains or blemishes. Gilding is in excellent condition, but the base is showing through in places. It measures 78.5" wide, 31" deep, and 37.5" high (85 x 199.5 x 79 cm). Seat height is 18.5".
