Antique Lidded Splint Sewing Basket with Splint Curls

Unavailable
Antique lidded splint sewing basket with splint curls, circa 1920 or earlier, probably made from oak or ash. The wood splints in this wonderful basket are in shades of rust, green, and tan. It measures approximately 4.5 inches high and 8.5 inches in diameter, and is lined with floral paisley fabric. The basket comes with the original owner's sewing notions, which include thread, pins, needles, bias trim, elastic, French lace, zippers, snaps, garters, a pair of tiny slippers, and what appear to be sewing machine tools. The origin of the basket is unknown although it is similar to baskets made in Maine and on the East Coast by native Americans in the twenties or before. It is in very good condition, sturdy and intact. Overall, the splints appear to be in very good condition, with few signs of wear. There is one area on the lid in which the edge appears frayed, and two areas on the basket rim which may be missing a loop. Please refer to the 4 photographs for appearance and condition. Shipping and handling will be $12.00. Insurance is available.
