Extraordinary group of pheasants sculpture / installation made out of bronze with a brown patina. It portrays a family of pheasants with the tall male adult with its very long tail standing guard as the smaller female feeds her chicks. The artist's signature 'Lechesne, Sculp' and foundry mark 'L. Martin fondeur' are incised on the ground, close to the edge of the oval base. Auguste Lechesne (1811- 1888) was a French Animalier school sculptor born in Caen, Normandy. The Animaliers were a group of mid-19th century French sculptors who rebelled against Classicism, made naturalistic sculptures of animals who caused a sensation at the time and are still sought after by collectors. In good used condition with imperfections as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking number. Measurements: 21.7" tall (55.5 cm) approximately. Item ID: 1571
