This is an antique victorian silver plated knife rest I brought back from England recently. The knife rest has ball ends rather like a satellite and a center bar like a turned banister. The knife rest dates to 1890-1910. The knife rest measures 4.25 inches long and stands 1.75 inches high and could be considered a carving knife rest. Knife rests were a victorian invention to keep the table cloth clean. It is really cute and quite collectible.
