Antique James W. Tufts Silverplate and glass footed bride's cake basket. This lovely piece was made by James W. Tufts of Boston - Warranted Quadruple Plate - is number 187 as indicated on the back of one of the feet. Basket is very ornate with scrolls and flowers and has a twisted handle, measures 10 1/4" to the top of the handle. The glass basket insert measures approximately 9" long, 5" wide and 4" tall. It has a vertical zipper design with deep ridges in between - glass has no chips or cracks. James W. Tufts began his business in 1875 and it closed in 1915. He retired in the late 19th Century and his partners ran the business after his retirement - he died in 1902. Tufts firm is known for its Aesthetic movement and Art Nouveau work.This exquisite brides basket is a perfect example of his wonderful craftsmanship.2 pounds 14 ounces
