Antique 19th century Islamic Central Asian horsemen Turkmen Nomads horse saddle cover. Such covers were woven to adorn, but specially to protect, their steeds from the freezing winds and the severe temperature of the steppe; they are warm, wrapping-round covers executed in warp faced technique, to make them thick and closely worked. In addition they are lined with warm felt. Their trapezoidal shape is traditional in this area. The two pectorals, partly detached from the back part for better molding on the horses body. The saddle is not included with the horse cover.
CONDITION: This horse cover is an authentic antique Turkoman horse cover, and not a modern tourist piece, the cover was well used so it is worn and dirty with some minor torn spots on the border and in the felt lining but is still in pretty good shape.
