ANtique Grand Tour Genuine Scarab Victorian brooch

Unavailable

Genuine scarabs were worn on jewelry during the aesthetic period and not many survived. THis wonderful and almost creepy brooch dates in the late 1800's-1900's and has three prong mounted genuine scarabs most likely from Egypt during the grand tour era. Since it is so old it is possible this is gold that has tarnished ( yes gold does tarnish to a brass color). I did not test it or clean it because I want to retain its natural state. The brooch measures almost 2" long and is all original. It has the long pin with clasp. Notice how far the pin sticks out past the clasp. THis helps date it ( the longer it sticks out the older it is). This is in great shape with rich patina. Great time for Halloween to come and wear an antique piece that fits right in with the occasion. VintageSparkles offers Layaway on all our pieces regardless of which site it comes from. Please remember that vintage & antique items are not mint, nor are they perfect but they sure are full of old history and charm.
