Antique Grand Tour Bronze Dionysos Bacchus Figure 19thC
Description: Antique Grand Tour Bronze Figure of Dionysos or Bacchus, 19th C. Italy. The sculpture is cast/modeled (after a Greek/Roman original) in the form of a young nude man/faun/god (with small tail and applied fig leaf) pouring wine from a pigskin wine cask/bag into his hand (goblet is missing). The bronze features a dark patina with verdigris oxidation. The sculpture is mounted on a stepped rectangular white marble plinth/base. The piece is not signed/marked. Price Comparison: $2000-3000 in Fine Art & Antiques Gallery. Dimensions: Bronze on Base: 13" High, 10" Long, 7-3/8" Wide. Bronze (not including marble base): 11-1/2" High, 8-3/4" Long, 5-1/2" Wide. Weight: 11lbs. Condition: The screw/bolt attaching the figure's back foot to the marble stand is missing (the figure is stable but slightly loose). There is some oxidation to the surface of the bronze. There is some rubbing/wear to the surface and edges of the carved marble stand with some small chips/losses along the edges and corners. Otherwise, the sculpture is in good condition.
