Rare Antique French Napoleonic infantry officer sword - SABRE DE MINEUR, DIT PETIT MONTMARCY (1786 1815).
"Les Armes Blamches De La Revolution" by JEAN-Pierre Martin. Page 109.
According to the book Sabres Francais 1680 1814 by CHRISTIAN BLONDIEAU. Page 33 and page 40, these types of sabers were used by the French army from the time of the Revolutionary war to 1815.
Details: A well made three - bar gilt brass basket guard hilt with a side - guard, retaining its original wooden grip covered with red fabric and bound with a double brass wire with a plane brass backpiece. A sturdy single edged tapering blade cut with a broad full-length fuller and a slender fuller along the back-edge.
CONDITION: The sword is in very good condition considering its age.
MEASUREMENTS: Overall: 80.6 cm (31 3/4 in).
