Here is a truly exquisite fan! 18 mother-of-pearl ribs incised with gold and copper coloring. The mother of pearl is rich and lustrous and it ends in a brass ring. The silk fabric of the fan becomes a canvas for the scene depicted which is oil painted. The edges of the fan are lined in gold foiled. It is signed on the right in Spanish with the name of the scene - La Rendicion de Granada - Pradilla (which means The Grenade Surrender –Pradilla in English) and then the artists’ signature - R Gabriel. With this fan there was a little piece of paper in the box and it reads as follows (it is the story of the scene on the fan) – “A painting of the surrender of the last Moorish King to Isabella…the surrender was both noble and sad…The Moor’s mother cursed her son as he rode to meet Isabella and Ferdinand, for being a coward and ceding to the Christians.” The condition is absolutely perfect – it is like the fan has never been open. This is an exquisite hand fan a wonderful collectible item – this fan deserves a fabulous complementary frame. It measures 10 ¼”l x 7/8” deep – closed it is 1 ½” wide and opened it is 8 ½” at widest. Striving For Excellence It isn’t brilliance or just getting the breaks, It is consistent attention to & honest respect for the Customer.
