Antique Edwardian Display sideboard C1900 Maple & Co

An exquisite antique Edwardian sideboard display cabinet, Circa 1900 in date with makers brass label for Maple & Co.

Maple & Co -the renowned furniture retailer of London, Paris and Buenos Aires, who were famous for top quality furniture.

They were by Royal Appointment and were one of the leading furniture manufacturers of the Victorian and Edwardian eras. They used only the finest quality timber which they imported directly from all over the world. They had premises in Tottenham Court Road in London, until the 1980s.

Their furniture was sold to Embassies, hotels, palaces and beautiful homes all over the world.

This stunning cabinet is made from solid mahogany, it has three doors, the central one having astragal glazing, the other two having flame mahogany panels. It has a a pair of glazed cabinets on top to display your collection, and they have lockable lift up tops.


The locks are high quality brass locks stamped with the makers name, Hobbs & Co of London.

There is no mistaking its unique quality and design and it will soon become indispensable for housing your collection of watches, porcelain, etc.

Thomas Sheraton-18th century furniture designer, once characterized mahogany as "best suited to furniture where strength is demanded as well as a wood that works up easily, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed." Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany."

The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree.
