Fantastic and rare outline printed and painted overglaze decorated aesthetic tile from the series, "Months of the Year" from Copeland & Sons, c. 1875-1880, depicting a woman in renaissance dress squeezing grapes into a chalice symbolic of September. The designs for the series are attributed to Lucien Besche based, according to Lockett, upon a drawing for one of the series in the Spode Museum signed "L.B." in the lower corner. The tile is in excellent condition with several minor edge nicks as shown. It is a Copeland tile that has been produced upon a Minton Hollins blank as was common with earlier Copeland tiles.
