Antique Chinese Wine Table

Unavailable
Antique Asian Table (Antique Chinese Wine Table). A Chinese antique table; often referred to as a wine table, as wine was served from it. Also referred to as a sword-leg table as the legs resemble an elaborate sword handle at the bottom of the leg.

The recessed legs are inserted into the shoulder joint whose tenons are exposed in the top frame. Two extenders are positioned between the legs on each side.

Originally, this wine table was covered with a thick lacquer, but the vicissitudes of 200 hundred years have worn away the lacquer exposing its beautiful brown patina.

The beading on the simple lobed apron and apron head spandrels extends down the legs terminating in the cloud patterned feet which rest on a small pad. The apron and foot style can be found in Song Dynasty period (960-1279) paintings. Antique Asian Furniture & Furnishings: Antique Chinese Wine Table from Shanxi Province, China.
