Antique Chinese Sword Leg Side Table with Stretchers

Unavailable
Chinese Provincial Antique Table (Antique Chinese Sword Leg Side Table with Stretchers). A beautiful example of a Chinese antique wine table, as wine was served from it. Also referred to as a sword-leg table as the legs resemble an sword handle at the bottom of the leg. The sword handle design on this table is elaborately carved.

The recessed legs are inserted into the shoulder joint whose tenons are exposed in the top frame. Two extenders are positioned between the legs on each side and one extender between the front and back legs.

Originally, this wine table was covered with a thick lacquer, but much of the original lacquer has worn away with use and time. However, the light brown patina is beautiful, revealing much of the wood grain.

The beading on the simple lobed apron and apron head spandrels extends down the legs until they reach the sword leg design. Antique Asian Furniture & Furnishings: Antique Chinese Sword Leg Side Table with Stretchers from Shanxi Province, China.
