Antique Chinese Locking Coffer Cabinet

Unavailable
This antique Chinese locking coffer cabinet is wonderfully carved-with carvings on the drawers, bottom apron, and the full length of the side spandrels. The carvings on the drawers are in the Buddhist long-life pattern. Each drawer has a brass pull and a latch to connect to the center locking ring. After each latch had been attached to the center locking ring, a lock would have secured the drawers from being opened. When the drawers are removed, this provides access inside the cabinet to the secret compartment under the drawer area. The three external panels of this section are painted in images of flowers. Under this area is a intricately carved apron in a stylistic dragon pattern. The side spandrels carvings are also of dragons but more realistic. The legs also have beaded carvings that run vertically.

The cabinet's original lacquer has worn with age, revealing a lovely dark and light brown patina.
