Antique 18th-19th century Islamic Caucasian Chechen sword made in the Turkish Ottoman style.
DETAILS: slightly curved single edged blade with two fullers and yelmen stamped with characteristic Caucasian cartouche containing maker name inscribed in Arabic letters, the hilt with horn grip-scales rising to a bulbous pommel, brass crossguard comprising a pair of down-turned curling arms.
MEASUREMENTS: overall length 88 cm, (34 5/8 in).
REFERENSES: the same makers mark is published in the book “Weapons of the Nations of the Caucasus" by Emma Asvatsaturyan, page 334, fig 282 b dated to the 18th-19th century.
