Antique Bronze Spanish Helmet Form Wall Clock, C.1900
Description: Antique Bronze Spanish Conquistador Helmet Form Wall Clock, Late 19th-Early 20th C. Probably France or Spain. The surface of the helmet shaped clock is cast in low relief with panels of scrolls, medallions, weapons, armor, ribbon, swags, fruit and instruments around a central circular medallion with sun shining down on figures on horseback and a recumbent man below a rearing horse. The center of the medallion (clock face) is fitted with pierced hour and minute hands and the edge is applied with twelve enameled white plaques with black Roman numerals. The back of the movement is marked with incised numbers. Dimensions: 14-1/2" High, 15" Wide, 4-1/2" Deep. Weight: 6.5lbs. Condition: The condition of the movement is not known or guaranteed (the encased mechanism to the back has not been opened). The winding key is missing. There is some wear to the black enamel on the hour and minute hands. There is some scratching/rubbing/wear to the surface and edges with some oxidation to the bronze. There are some cracks/chips/losses to eight of the twelve enameled numeral plaques with some darkening to the enamel (some appear to have been repaired). Otherwise, the clock is in fair/good condition.
