Antique 19th century British Infantry officers sword pattern 1845. Details: A solid brass four bar basket hilt incorporating a crown over a royal cipher VR with a wire bound shark skin grip with a back-strap decorated on the top in rococo ornament. A sturdy slightly curved single edged blade with fuller, double edged toward the point with a median ridge, which usually appears on back-pipe blades and is hardly ever seen on fullered blades. The sword comes with its original leather scabbard with brass chape, locket, and suspension mounts. The blade of this particular sword is not engraved, and is sturdier and heavier, compared to similar swords of this pattern. Also the hilt is larger to comparable swords; most likely this is a combat sword from the Crimean War period time.
CONDITION: the sword is in good condition considering its age.
MEASUREMENTS: overall length with the scabbard: 101 cm (39 ¾ in), overall length without the scabbard: 98 cm (38 ½ in), length of the blade: 83 cm (32 5/8 in).
