Antique Bailey & Co. Silver Tea & Coffee Set by Gorham

Unavailable
This wonderful coin silver tea set was produced by Gorham for Bailey & Co. of Philadelphia between 1846 and 1878. (Originally Bailey & Kitchen, the firm changed its name to Bailey & Co. in 1846 and in 1878 became Bailey Banks & Biddle, the noted silver company and retailer which survives to this day.) Included is a coffee pot, tea pot, milk pitcher and sugar bowl. Large pot measures 13 3/8" by 8 3/4" by 5 1/2" and weighs 2 lbs. 8.7 oz (1154 g). Smaller pot measures 8 1/4" by 9 3/4" by 5 1/4" and weighs 1 lbs. 15.8 oz (903 g). Sugar bowl measures 7" by 8 1/4" by 5" and weighs 1 lbs. 8.4 oz (693 g). (We do not have specifications of the milk jug.) Condition is excellent. There are only modest dings and small dents, consistent with age, and no deep dents or deep scratches. Each carries a monogram which appears to read AC or CA. Its style features elements of neoclassical design such as male masks with ram horns, lotus flowers and anthemions. The applied beading is exceptional. Additional images forwarded upon request.
