Antique Aesthetic INsect dragonfly frog and grasshopper calling card case

Unavailable

The aesthetic period (1868 to 1901) brought about some of the most unusual pieces .In the late 1800's, Darwin's controversial theories on evolution, as well as new botanical discoveries taking place, created quite an interest in the natural world. Personal adornments and vanity items reflected these new interests with jewelry created in forms of insects and animals. To find this rare leather late 1800's card case in such great condition was a real joy. THis was stored in an old book and it kept it really well preserved. This has grasshoppers, frogs, beetles, flies, moths all in raised relief on the leather. AS you look on the inside you can see these were not impressed into the leather from the underside. THey are made to look like fossils in a technique I an not familiar with. This measures 3 1/8" x 1 1/8" and is in great condition. VintageSparkles offers Layaway on all our pieces regardless of which site it comes from. Please remember that vintage & antique items are not mint, nor are they perfect but they sure are full of old history and charm. Please use photos to make your decisions and read our policies prior to buying so you can have an excellent experience with us.
