ANtique 1900's Sacred Heart Vinaigrette locket necklace sterling with crown Victorian

Unavailable
This is a wonderful antique treasure that has the most beautiful raised relief work on it. . This antique Sterling Silver Victorian Repousse Puffy Heart Locket, case or pendant charm could also have been called a vinaigrette. Sometimes these were also called a Silver Love Token Box. The rare few that are left were elaborate silver betrothal boxes which was a European tradition since medieval times. This silver and gilt Victorian version is in the form of a locket, opening to contain a special memento. The design of the heart - love, and the crown - is similar to the Scottish luckenbooth, which is usually depicted by two hearts and a crown, representing betrothal, affection, and friendship. THis valuable and wonderful religious relic is quite large ( 2 1/2" tall with bale) has a hinge on the back that opens to a large compartment for scents, treasures, or even cremation ashes. This is a rare treasure that has been in my collection for years and has never been offered for sale before. It belonged to family in a Ny which auctioned off their estate in the 70's. IT was one of two and I have already sold the other. We purchased this with a number of antique bibles and other victorian sterling pieces. THis puffed heart is thick( over 1/2") and it hangs from a sterling 20" chain ( original to the piece, although the clasp was replaced) . This repousse locket/ case is all hand chased and was not mass produced by machine. Total weight of the chain and locket it 31.1 grams. Don't miss out at the last minute, I doubt it will last long.     VintageSparkles offers Layaway on all our pieces regardless of which site it comes from. All layaway payments will need to be in the form of a check or money order only.
