American Pond Boat - Gaff-rigged Schooner, c. 1910
- Item Not Available
This is a c. 1910-made model of a 2-masted cargo schooner, that probably plied the east coast of the US in the late 1800's .
The rig and sails are original, and the hull has been refinished.
In the late 1800's, the fastest and most economical means of transporting the goods needed by a growing America was by water, and there were thousands (no exaggeration) of 2- and 3-masted schooners engaged in the coastwise trade. The schooner rig was (and is) easy to handle by a small crew, and was thus favored by the thrifty watermen.
Here's a good old pond model that celebrates the great heritage of our nautical forefathers. Schooner- American made pond boat C 1910. Great looking old model with what appears to be the original sails. 34" long and 30" tall.
