Beautifully engraved Check from the American Mining Company issued in 1850. This historic document has an ornate border around it with a vignette of Gearge Washington, an eagle, and a barefoot blacksmith sitting without a shirt and shoes with a hammer to his side. This item is over 152 years old. The Certificate is signed by the Company's President, L. E. Phelps and its Secretary, W. Guning. The company was incorporated by the Legislature of Vermont in 1849. This is one of the earliest mining certificates we have seen with a vignette.

Vignette #3 The American Mining Company had their headquarters in Windsor, Vermont. They owned and operated number of properties throughout the United States. Some of these mine included the Norwich, Windsor, Derby and Sharon.
