American Express Company Antique Solid Black Walnut Fall Front Desk
This American Express Company Antique Solid Black Walnut Fall Front Desk, circa 1870, is quite stunning. Constructed out of solid black walnut the fall front desk has contrasting beautiful birdseye maple on the hand chamfered interior petite drawer faces and decorative shelf accents. The fitted interior also has cubbyholes and nicely curved vertical file spaces and the original turned wooden knobs on all of the interior drawers. Gorgeous wooden drawer pulls and applied fruit and nut carvings appear on all the exterior doors. The top drops down to reveal the original leather writing surface. Below is a single hand dovetailed and hand chamfered drawer and hand chamfered cupboard doors that open to reveal an interior shelf. All the door fronts are paneled, as well as the bottom sides.There are some condition issues on the fall front desk; it is missing two wooden keyhole covers, there is some veneer damage on the bottom side of the top section, there is an old repaired crack near the top of the bottom right door, and the gallery is missing on the top. The American Express Company Antique Solid Black Walnut Fall Front Desk has the original locks with key, the original American Express Company Oil City, Pa. label, measures, 52.25 inches H X 36.00 inches W X 24.00 inches D, and is in the original finish with appropriate wear for its age.
