American Encaustic Fireplace Panels

Unavailable

Fantastic and rare set of two 4-tile panels by the American Encaustic Tiling Company (AETCO), Zanesville, OH, c. 1880-1902, depicting a Hunter with Rifle surrounded by an acorn and oak leaf motif and a Maiden Offering a Stein of Wine surrounded by a grape and grape leaf motif. The eight tiles (making two four-tile panels) measure 6"x 6" each and are all in very good to excellent condition (the second tile in the panel depicting the maiden has a chip from the back at the lower left corner which does not appear when the tiles are framed and the bottom tile from the same panel has some wear to the high points of the grape cluster and a tendril of the vine) with the images carved in relief and are finished in a rich deep forest green slightly oil-lustre glaze. I have more photographs taken of each tile individually; please write if you would like me to send them to you. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to write. Thank you for viewing the listing.
