Beautifully engraved certificate from the Adventure Consolidated Copper Company issued in 1898. This historic document was printed by the American Banknote Company and has an ornate border around it with a vignette of moose. This item is hand signed by the Company’s Vice President ( T. Henry Mason ) and Secretary ( William Todd ) and is over 104 years old.
Certificate Vignette The Adventure Mining Company in 1850, but was purchased by Quincy president Thomas F. Mason in 1863. The mine was worked by the Adventure Copper Company (1863-1898) and the Adventure Consolidated Copper Company (1898-1938), both with strong ties to Quincy. A comparison of boards of directors identifies Charles Devereax, T. Henry Mason, William R. Todd, and W.A.O. Paul serving in varying capacities for both companies. In addition, both S.B. Harris and Charles Lawton filled superintendant’s offices at both mines. The Adventure was liquidated in 1938, though Quincy returned to analyze its copper deposits in 1974 for possible work.
