Table of Contents
"The majority of glazed porcelain shoulder heads were made from the 1840s through the 1930s by seven Thuringian porcelain factories. The factories include Alt, Beck & Gottschalck, Conta & Boehme, Hertwig & Co., Kestner & Co., A.W. Fr. Kister, C.L. Kling & Co. and Kloster Veisdorf. The facial painting found on the glazed porcelain shoulder heads made by each of these porcelain factories varies, and the difference is apparent when a group of chinas made by the same factory are placed together. If you look carefully at the painted eyebrows, eyes and mouths, you will see that the painting is remarkably identical on the heads made by each of the seven porcelain factories."
