A Fine Antique Victorian English Sterling Silver Claret Jug

This fine elegant claret jug has a cylindrical tapering neck to an ovoid body onto a circular pedestal foot. The shaped rim, upper border of the body and rim of the jug foot all have bead decoration. The jug has fine bright cut engraved garland and foliate decoration to the neck and body. There is a shield-shaped cartouche with contemporary engraved initials to the front of the jug. The hallmarked hinged domed cover has an urn style silver finial. The jug is fitted with an elegant shaped hallmarked silver handle which has bright cut engraved decoration and a chased acanthus leaf decorated thumbpiece. This jug is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition. The engraved decoration is very crisp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the jug, just below the lip, and part hallmarks, as expected to the interior of the cover and handle are all very clear.
