Back in the days of yore, say in the late 1800’s or very early 1900’s, and before the advent of bubble-pack packaging, your local hardware store offered screws, bolts, nuts, etc., in bulk in cabinets such as this one. You, or the proprietor, could count out the exact number of fasteners needed from one of the 80 drawers in this fine oak cabinet. That was an easier, gentler time,.
Built somewhere around the turn of the 20th Century, the cabinet measures 44” by 32” by 12” deep, and tips the sales at about 85 pounds. The finish is early, and possibly original, and is in very good shape.
The inside measurement of each drawer is 3” by 8” by 2.5” high. Behind the oak faces and brass pulls, the drawers are of metal construction, and in excellent condition.
Originally from a small hardware store in upstate New York, the cabinet was purchased there by an antiques dealer, and knowledgeable collector, who immediately recognized the excellence of the piece, and put it directly into his own home. It traveled to Florida with the dealer and his family when they retired, some 30 years ago.
