Antique French Louis XVI Style Sideboard Commode After Guillame Benneman

Unavailable

This extraordinary mahogany side cabinet in the French Louis XVI style dates from the late nineteenth century, and is modeled after a design by Guillaume Benneman from the 1780s. It measures 84" (7') wide, 28.5" deep and 37.75" high (213 cm by 72.4 cm by 95.9 cm). It features a variegated white marble top above a long frieze drawer, front cabinets, and concave side doors opening to two shelves. According to Sotheby's, this design was modeled by Benneman after an original design by Guillaume Stoekel which was created for the bedchamber of Louis XVI at Compiegne. A very similar commode of the same period as ours was sold in New York by Sotheby's on April 15, 2008, in lot 317, for $67,000 including buyer's premium.
