To a fine and rare Hudson Valley folk art carved fireplace mantelpiece constructed of soft pine, this example has a shelf with central bow and two projected ends. The boxed shelf has gouge carved flutes and ribbons; below is a course of fluting centered with an architectural patera. The mantel frieze is highly carved in rich gouge work displaying radiating quadrant sunbursts. Surrounding this are three projected tablets also richly carved with sunbursts. All are footed on a fluted belt course with interruptions. The mantel jambs or legs are mounted with pilasters each having half round reeded columnettes. Above are carved capitals and below moulded bases footed on projected plinths. The mantel opening has a rich trim section as does the vertical exterior. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting. NOTE: This mantle should be installed by your mechanic in accordance with all local fire and building codes. (#1756)
