To a fine quality soft pine Philadelphia area fireplace mantelpiece of the circa 1810-1825 period. The shelf has a central bow with two projected ends all trimmed with moulding. Supporting the shelf is a rich course of dentilation both fluted and reeded. This course crosses three plain tablets to the mantel frieze, which in turn are supported by a richly moulded band course. The mantel jambs or legs have pilasters with applied knife edge moulding paneled in quarter round trim. The pilasters are footed on plinths and the mantel opening has a richly moulded two course section and the mantel exterior a moulded three quarter round section. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting.
