To a fine and rare neoclassic pine mantelpiece from a mansion which was located in Lancaster, Pa. The arcaded shelf has various moulded sections; below is a course of stylized dentilation. The mantel frieze has incised carved fan paterae to all areas. The frieze is crossed by a moulded band course. The mantel jambs have a step back making the mantel of one dimension in width top to bottom. The jambs are mounted with slightly engaged reed columns with moulded capitals and plinths. The mantel opening has reeded trim capped with turned mitre blocks. The mantel dates c.1810-1820 and is of handsome proportion. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting. NOTE: This mantle should be installed by your mechanic in accordance with all local fire and building codes. (#1691)
