2003/982 Chester County, Penna. Mantel c.1780-1790

Unavailable
A fine and rare late Georgian neoclassic hard or yellow pine fireplace mantelpiece. The straight molded shelf is supported by a course of dentilation and various moldings. The mantel frieze is mounted with fluted applied tablets as well as continued fluting across the entire central section, a most rare feature. The mantel opening is mounted with a molded section which supports the above mentioned tablets. The mantel jambs are fitted to the frieze with mortise and tendon and the construction features, including the fixing pins, can be seen now that the mantel is in a natural patina finish. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting. NOTE: This mantle should be installed by your mechanic in accordance with all local fire and building codes. (#1543)
